A4 Discussion Groups

Do you have an alternatives assessment or informed substitution topic that you want to gather other A4 members to discuss and advance together? Consider forming an A4 Discussion Group. Proposal procedures for forming an A4 discussion group can be found here.

A4 Discussion Group Offering — Best Practices for Incorporating Alternatives Assessment in Policy

Open to A4 Members Only

As alternatives assessment becomes incorporated more into regulatory practice, it is critical that policy is crafted in a way that is consistent with the Commons Principles for Alternatives Assessment. Are you an A4 member? Are you interested in the topic of alternatives assessment in policy? Join a multi-disciplinary group of A4 members to discuss key challenges and opportunities related to incorporating alternatives assessment into public policy at all levels of government. Topics of discussion to include but not limited to:

  • Lessons learned from recent regulatory alternatives assessment/alternatives analyses/analysis of alternatives
  • Considerations for writing alternatives assessment into legislation
  • Considerations for responsible agencies
  • USA, EU, and global perspectives
  • Addressing key challenges to successful alternatives assessment implementation through crafting legislation, agency implementation, and rule making

Through these conversations, we will discuss the potential for crafting and incorporating official A4 guidelines on this topic. The discussion group will meet at regular intervals (to be established by the group) beginning in April. If you are interested in participating please contact: Cathy Rudisill. If you are not a member, please consider joining.
